  3. -- WHAT IS 3D Studio? --

  5. 3D Studio is a 3D modeling, rendering and animation package from the
  6. makers of AutoCAD, AutoDesk.  The software runs on the IBM/compatible
  7. platform.  The 3D Studio software allows and artist to create three
  8. dimensional photo-realistic images for a variety of purposes.
  9.  
  10. -- WHY ARE WE DOING THIS? --
  11.  
  12. This mailing list is for those interested in the 3D Studio software, how
  13. it operates and in ideas on how to obtain the best quality images
  14. available to them.  The list is for those who own the software as well
  15. as those just interested in what can be done with the package. We hope
  16. to share information, tips, procedures and to bond as a group.

  18. -- WHAT ARE THE RULES? --
  19.  
  20. Since 3D Studio is just a part of suite of tools required to produce 3D
  21. graphics and animation, I'm sure we will discuss a few items related to
  22. the IBM/Compatible platform and display devices.  However, we will
  23. strive to keep the subject revolving specifically around the 3D
  24. software, related tools and products.

  28. -- OK! HOW DO I JOIN? --

  30. To become a member of the 3D Studio mailing list you must send a mail
  31. message to the address:

  35. In the body of the message enter:

  37. subscribe <address> 3dstudio

  43. The listserv software will automatically subscribe you to the list and
  44. you can also unsubscribe the same way using unsubscribe instead of
  45. subscribe as the command you send to the listserv software

  47. -- HOW DO I POST TO THE LIST? --

  49. Contributing to the list is simple.  Just mail your articles to the
  50. following address:

  54. Your article will be processed by the system and distributed to all
  55. others joined to the list.  Your articles will also be sent to you so
  56. you know that your article has made it to the list.

  58. -- HOW DO I QUIT THE LIST? --

  60. Simply mail a request to be removed from the list to the same address
  61. you used to sign up:

  69. PLEASE, if you join the list and your account is going to be closed or
  70. if you will not be able to receive mail for a while, send a request to
  71. be removed from the list! If you are just going to lose access for a
  72. short while still send a request for a suspension of your membership.

  74. -- WHAT ABOUT OLD ARTICLES? --
  75.  
  76. I am currently archiving all the articles posted to the list at the
  77. originating site (bobsbox).  However, I can not continue to do this due
  78. to lack of disk space.  What we need is a volunteer that will maintain a
  79. compendium of articles sent to the list.  They can compress and store
  80. them in archives on their system.  They can then periodically post an
  81. index of the contents of the compendium and any other information that
  82. relates.

  84. If there are no volunteers then maybe someone can donate a large SCSI
  85. hard drive to me for archival purposes. <grin>
  86.  
  87. I have setup a mail-based file server so that anyone interested in the
  88. list can obtain information as well as the entire archive of past
  89. articles, the membership listing and other information pertaining to
  90. the 3D Studio mailing list. For information on this service, please
  91. send a mail message to:

  95. The first command to the server must be "HELP" or "USER name <passwd>".
  96.  
  97. Use HELP to request a current copy of the helpfile.
  98. Use USER name [passwd] to connect to the service.
  99. Use ?    to get a short listing of all available commands.

  107. the list.  Every little bit helps.  Questions are welcomed!  It makes
